The Canon EOS or electro optical system was introduced in 1987. It was included in the 35mm film autofocus and digital SLR cameras. Before, Canon had a contract with Kodak. Canon would rebrand the camera under Canon’s name. This uses the camera body of Canon and the digital back and internals is from Kodak.
The first Canon DSLR camera made by Canon is the Canon EOS D30. This was announced last May 17, 2000. Everything was made by Canon. This camera is a 3.1 megapixel camera with 22.7 x 15.1mm CMOS sensor. It has a 3 point auto focus. The shutter speed range is 30 to 1/4000s. The exposure modes are full auto, programmed, shutter-priority, aperture priority and manual. It has an eye level pentaprism viewfinder. The LCD monitor at the back is a 1.8 inch color TFT liquid-crystal monitor. It has a built-in flash and the flash mode is E-TTL. It has 3 frames per second for continuous shooting and the maximum is 8 frames. The dimension of this camera is 150 x 107 x 75mm and weighs 780 grams for body only.
The first professional digital SLR camera made by Canon is the Canon EOS-1D. This camera was released in the market last November 2001. It is a 4 megapixel camera. This has a CCD sensor. The X-sync speed is up to 1/500 of a second and the shutter speed is up to 1/16000 of a second. The exposure modes are full auto, programmed, shutter-priority, aperture priority and manual. The focus area is 45 auto focus points. For continuous shooting, you can have 8 frames up to 21 frames. It has an optical viewfinder. This camera weighs 1,250 grams for the body only.
The Canon EOS-1D Mark III is one of the digital SLR cameras that Canon is selling now. The estimated retail price of this camera is at US$3,999.00. This camera has a 10.1 megapixel with CMOS sensor.
It can shoot up to 10 fps. The burst rate is 110 full-resolution JPEG images or 30 RAW images. It has an AF high precision system. It includes a 19 user selectable AF points and 26 additional assist points. It has a lighter body. It is very durable and is water resistant and features a shutter that is durable tested up to 300,000 exposures. It has the dual DIGIC III image processor which can produce a very good image quality. There is a highlight tone priority option that can control bright lights. It has a 3.0 inch LCD monitor which has a live view function. This camera is compatible with 50 EF lenses and with EOS system accessories.
